The Plastic Free July Challenge is hard, no doubt about that. If you go into the grocery store, most items are packaged in plastic. If you want to order something online, chances are the package will also contain plastic. Plastic is cheap, durable and light but it is slowly drowning the environment. If you support the initiative of Plastic Free July but find it difficult to completely eradicate plastic from your life, try to target a few daily habits instead. A great example of something that you can easily live without is bottled water!
Why do we even consume bottled water? Most of us are lucky enough to have access to clean tap water, but we still spend tonnes of money buying bottled water from a store. Is it better? As it turns out, regulations for tap water can actually be stricter than for bottled water! This leaves us with no guarantee that what we buy is actually “healthier” and the results of blind tests showed that we prefer the taste of tap water over bottled water.
But the financials are only one aspect, the terrible environmental consequences are even more shocking. Take a look at this infographic which guides you through the bottled water industry and explains the consequences of bottled water consumption. Make your contribution to Plastic Free July and invest in a reusable water bottle- you’ll have the trendiest accessory of the summer!
