10 Questions with Marcus from True Boxers: Sustainable Colourful Briefs-MAMOQ

As part of our founder interview series we interview Marcus Stadler from True Boxers to learn about his views on sustainability, and his desire to create the leading organic men's underwear label.

What inspired you to first launch True Boxers? Also, how did you decide to focus on boxers?

We always have had the issue that regular offered men's underwear weren't crafted in a lasting way; weren't made with love and neither did it come from sustainable productions.

So what makes your boxers the best on the market?

We took great care when it comes to manufacturing. We want our boxers to be a masterpiece. Every garment was well selected starting from the sewing threads, inserts, prints, to the belt. Our organic and toxin free fabric we produce from scratch in Barcelona. Further, all our sewings are double reinforced stitchings for extra durability. Finally, it's our design, which gives a pair of True Boxers its finishing touch. We chose patterns and colors on purpose.

Tell us something that might surprise us about True Boxers.

We personalize your boxers for free, starting from three peaces or more. So this means, you will get your personal initials on them.

If you couldn’t make great boxers, what would you be doing?

Organic olive oil or chocolate.

You ran a successful Kickstarter campaign for True Boxers. But what did that experience teach you about your own brand?

That there is a demand for garments that receive the attention they deserve.

True Boxers is OEKO-Tex Certified. So, what exactly does this mean, and why was this important for you to obtain?

The STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is a worldwide consistent, independent testing and certification system for raw, semi-finished, and finished textile products at all processing levels, as well as accessory materials used. This is just one part of the quality control we face ourselves in order to manifest our set quality standards.

You self identify as ‘Sustainable Fashion made in Europe’. And what exactly does sustainable fashion mean to you?

When we first discovered that fashion is the second most polluting industry in the world, we knew that something had to change. This is how True Boxers came into life, a well-known product, brought to a level where it hasn’t been yet and this all for a reasonable price. True Boxers was founded on the belief that great boxershorts and social responsibility can coexist.

Our name was inspired by the documentary "The True Cost", but it also means fair European manufacturing, non-toxic dyes, sustainable fabrics, a zero-waste philosophy, and above all, enduring style. After a long journey, we found our perfect match, our supplier in Spain and our manufacturer in Portugal; both committed to the integrity of their staff. It’s been our goal to only use certified poplin cotton as well as environmentally friendly dye. This ensures that your pair of boxers is made of the softest, most comfortable and sustainable fabric possible.

How can we encourage more sustainable practices throughout the fashion industry?

Its all about awareness. We as a single customer have an enormous buying power. So if we avoid Zara, H&M, Primark, etc., they will be forced to rethink their current business model. You as an individual can make a difference. One always has to start. Help us eliminate fast fashion & move towards sustainable fashion. We believe that creativity and confidence lead individuals to generate true changes in this world. With our product, we want to set a benchmark for men’s underwear.

What is your proudest moment since starting True Boxers?

The opening of our very first Pop-Up Shop in November 16 downtown Vienna. We received enormous love and feedback from our customers. „Thank You!“

So, how would you like to see True Boxers expand over the next years?

To grow into a leading organic mens underwear label.
